Scope of service

BCN Student is software. You answer questions about your situation, and it fills in the official forms, builds a checklist of the documents to bring, checks your answers for mistakes and gives you one folder to take with you. It works from the information you supply, for procedures that are conducted in Spanish and assume local knowledge you may not have yet.

BCN Student is not a law firm (despacho de abogados) and holds no colegiación. It is not a registered gestoría administrativa. It is not an agent, representative or intermediary of any Spanish public authority, and it is not affiliated with any university. It does not submit applications, book appointments or attend them for you.

Spanish law reserves certain activities — legal representation, formal immigration advice, and acting before authorities on another person’s behalf — to regulated professionals. Offering those services without that qualification is intrusismo profesional. We do not offer them, and this page exists so there is no ambiguity about it.

Official forms EX-17 and EX-18 contain a section for the details of a legal representative. BCN Student leaves it deliberately and permanently empty. Completing it would declare to the National Police that we act as your representative, which is untrue and would require a power of attorney we neither hold nor will ask you for. You are the applicant on every form you prepare.

BCN Student leaves the electronic-notification consent box unchecked. Opting in starts legally binding notification deadlines delivered to a Spanish government mailbox that requires a digital certificate to open — something a newly arrived student does not have. A missed notification can close a file. If you later obtain a certificate and want to opt in, that is your decision to make knowingly.

Decisions on residency, registration and documentation rest entirely with the competent Spanish authorities. We do not influence those decisions and cannot guarantee any outcome, timeline or appointment availability. What we aim for is that your form is filled in correctly from the information you gave, and that you know what to bring.

Procedures and requirements change. Each requirement in the tool shows the official source it comes from and the date it was last checked against that source. A folder you downloaded earlier does not update itself: check the official page again before you file.

The information you give becomes a declaration you sign. You are responsible for its accuracy, for reading every line of the form against your passport before signing, and for attending in person with the original documents. The tool shows you what it finds; it cannot check your documents for you, because it has never seen your original passport.

If your situation is a renewal, a refused application, an expired or irregular status, a family reunification claim, the registration of an EU/EEA/Swiss national, or anything else outside the cases it supports, the tool says so instead of producing a form that might be wrong. If a deadline may have passed, it still prepares the form but flags your case for review by a qualified adviser.
